The exhibition is the culmination of undergraduate studies for 2012/13 and, as in previous years, the exhibition will demonstrate an extremely high level of creative achievement with each student cultivating an individual practice that is distinctively their own, and that reflects the diversity of contemporary ideas and culture. The Visual Arts Degree Show provides graduating students with an opportunity to showcase their work before embarking on careers in the arts and creative industries. Through their individual art works, our graduates demonstrate original and innovative approaches to art practice. The event is open to staff, current and future students as well as the general public, enabling all visitors to view the new generation of artists as they make their distinctive mark on contemporary ideas and culture. This popular event, which is eagerly awaited each year, attracts hundreds of visitors. The 2013 Visual Arts Degree Show will once again travel to London to take part in Free Range at The Truman Brewery, our annual undergraduate fine art showcase event in the capital. This exhibition will run 4 – 8 July 2013. Save the dates as this exhibition should is not to be missed! Special Preview: Tuesday 18 June 2013, 6pm Squires Building Exhibition: 19 June - 29 June 2013_ By Mellanie Moore on April 19, 2013 in Art & Design It’s quite likely, if I told you that this exhibition was named after a track featured in the Fight Club OST, sung by the Pixies, you’d know exactly what to expect. In the sad event neither of those things means anything to you, here’s the deal: Sanctuary Art Gallery in Gateshead are exhibiting artworks of a “conceptual and enquiring” theme titled Where Is My Mind? The selected works will touch upon the non-permanent and unattainable. Listening to the song should clear this up nicely. If you’re still lost, or would like to know more, but are turned off by the idea of square frames on dull walls, worry not. The exhibit promises to be as striking and unusual as its namesake, with carefully selected pieces to maximise the impact of the theme. One which you will surely need to see to appreciate fully. Curated by video artist and Northumbria Uni student, Sophia Gourley and graduate photographer Liam Cox, the exhibit promises to be dynamic, if nothing else. Exhibited pieces will consist of the labours of 13 Northumbria University students across a range of ages and disciplines, which perhaps explains the insubstantial and ethereal theme. With that much space to bounce ideas in and with 13 minds bouncing them, there needs to be plenty of room to manoeuvre. Knitted together by vague strands of thematic similarity, the inspiration and medium of each of the artists will be different, adding something to the appeal of the exhibit you won’t find anywhere else. Where Is My Mind? will pay a fleeting visit to the Sanctuary space between Monday 22nd April and Thursday 2nd May. As the website itself promises: “Your head will collapse, But there’s nothing in it, And you’ll ask yourself… Where Is My Mind? http://www.kyeo.tv/2013/04/19/where-is-my-mind-collaborative-art-seeks-sanctuary/ A collective of work of all disciplines by 13 of the North East's up and coming new artists… Sophia Gourley, Liam Cox, Lorna Brady,Danny Wood, Zoe Plant, Chris Welton, Νatalie Κωνσταντίνου, Michelle Justice, Holly Duckworth, Chereen Prescott, Adam Carr, Ricky James and BChemical Child.
